South Haven
Mrs. Grimes and Mr. Montgomery at the South Haven Way program worked with experts at centric to create a timely (hello Halloween and Thanksgiving!) project to help students earn algebra two credit. Spearheaded by Mrs. Grimes, students worked together to see how many rubber bands it would take around a pumpkin before the pumpkin would explode. Along the way, they learned many math concepts, such as circumference and diameter, mean, median, and mode, distributions, as well as scatter and box plots. In the end, students earned credit and got excited for math! Congratulations on an exciting project!
WAY East Jackson
Savannah Boody began the 2022-2023 school year as a freshman based on credits. By age, she was supposed to be a senior. Over the course of the school year, Savannah worked extremely hard. During her time with the Way Program, she earned 17.7 credits! This allowed her to graduate on time. For a student to earn three year’s worth of credits in one year is amazing by itself, but Savannah also managed to earn all A’s and B’s, which gave her an overall GPA of 3.6. When asked what the key to her success was, she said, “Just focus. When you see the percentage completed go up, you get motivated. Then you know you can complete it. And when you put your mind to something, you can complete anything! You just need that motivation.”
Savannah, your hard work, persistence and determination will take you places in your life! Congratulations on this great accomplishment!
WAY Watervliet
Watervliet WAY students have the opportunity to take classes at the Van Buren Technical Center during their Junior and Senior years. Bram Cheek and Corbin Peterson have been attending VBTC for the past two years in the automotive program. They are both in line to take their Engine Repair State Exam which they have been diligently studying for, while also completing all of their remaining WAY courses. Once they pass this exam, they will be provided a gateway to any automotive shop. They will be able to use their expertise and experience to open new opportunities for themselves. At this time, Bram has been offered a position with Caterpillar upon graduation and Corbin has been offered a job with Lane Automotive.
It is exciting to see these two young men take advantage of the opportunities presented to them through the WAY Program and work on their future careers. Congratulations Bram and Corbin. The world is a better place with you in it!
